5-10 Year Pilot Project with Ongoing Evaluation

1- VALUES, ATTITUDES, BEHAVIORS

The core of violence prevention and peace promotion in the family, school and community is to replace the values, attitudes and behaviors of violence with those of peace - peace as a process, a way to resolve conflicts, and a way to reduce and prevent intra- personal, interpersonal and institutional violence. The center of the effort is the daily Make A Minute for Peace for schools and families.

2- COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS - EMPOWERING PEOPLE (click to see flyer)

The goal is to link individual, family and community development through working partnerships with schools, health providers, community and government organizations, then growing this into a neighborhood and eventually a community area partnership to redress violence, racism and poverty.  Projects include work on a violence prevention health protocol, community justice service center and family computers.

3- SCHOOL SUCCESS STRATEGY (click to see flyer)

A multi-faceted school strategy that includes a diagnostic of needs, formation of a school success team, Make A Minute for Peace, teacher education, school assemblies, classroom workshops, after school programs, facility design, and additional tools.

4- BUILDING PARENT BRIDGES (click to see flyer)

A multi-faceted monthly program to assist parents in building Bridges to Children, Bridges to Teachers and Bridges to the Community.

7- CHICAGO BUILD THE PEACE COALITION

An annual city wide coalition that celebrates the United Nations International Peace Day in September, linking local violence prevention and peace promotion to national and international efforts.
